 Frequently Asked Questions

InfoNatura now includes images of more than 1,900 birds, mammals, and amphibians. Over time we hope to acquire images for all species found on InfoNatura.

Species with thumbnail images available directly now display a camera icon on the Results page. For all other species, a direct link to the Google image search feature is provided on the Species Report.

The images displayed are provided by trusted sources with extensive expertise in the relevant groups. However, NatureServe has not independently verified the identification of the species in each image. If you have a comment about the identification of a particular species, please use the Contact Us form.

The images presented are intended for the education of the public. Each image report has guidelines for use of the image. For the most part, they may be freely downloaded and used for non-commercial, educational purposes. All such uses must include the appropriate photographer's credit and copyright information that accompanies each image. NatureServe is grateful to the photographers who have made their images available for this purpose.

The advance permission granted by the photographer or copyright holder does not extend to use for commercial purposes. Any such use must be negotiated with the copyright holder directly. Contact information accompanies each image.

Refer to the originating site for guidelines.

NatureServe welcomes contributions of species images from interested photographers, particularly those that have large collections that focus on specific groups or regions. However, we do not currently have the resources to process unsolicited contributions. Therefore, if you are interested in contributing images, please contact us first to discuss the types of images you have available.

We wish to thank the following donors for their generous contributions that have allowed us to develop the image feature:

Duke Energy Corporation
National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII)
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation
